Use of iPhone by doctors

With the release of the new iPhone 3G, everyone has been all abuzz about the recent developments that come with the new smartphone. The new iPhone 3G is faster than ever. It would take less time to load web pages and applications. Also, applications that are not made by Apple can also be used with the iPhone. A lot of businesses have been interested in incorporating the use of the iPhone in the daily processing and storing of data. Maybe these iPhones can even do some of the work being done by computers. This smartphone has become more than just a phone for personal use. People are considering making the iPhone a part of the workplace, and the hospital is no exception.

Several doctors are tapping the benefits of the iPhone to help do their jobs easier and more comfortably. The iPhone is portable. Wherever the doctor is, he can bring his work along with him. He won’t be missing anything as long as he has his iPhone in his pocket. For a small gadget, the iPhone can do much. It has enough memory to store files that the doctor will be needing. The iPhone is also capable of playing applications that can help doctors with their work.

There are also a lot of possible applications, to be used through the iPhone, which can aid the doctor in his everyday tasks. A good one is a drug database. The doctor can search through a list of possible medicines that he can administer to his patients. Another possible application is one which creates electronic prescriptions for the patients. The doctor can type in a few words in the prescription maker and the prescription can be sent to the patient’s iPhone or personal computer. It will be faster and easier for the patients and their doctors to communicate.

However, even with the possible big help that the iPhone can give, some doctors are still questioning the idea of doctors using the iPhone for their work. One of the possible problems of using the iPhone is the security of patients’ files. With Wi-Fi, it is possible that the files of the doctors’ patients can be seen by outsiders. These pieces of information are confidential, and it is the responsibility of the hospital to keep these bits of information private. Another possible trouble is the ability of the iPhone to stay on top of the busy schedule and harsh demands of the hospital workplace. These iPhones need to be charged. If a doctor is in the emergency room, there is no time for a break to go and charge an iPhone.

There are issues arising about the big help the iPhone can offer in the field of medicine. Right now, let us stay positive about the doors that technology will open for more possibilities and more help to enter. It is better to use technology as a part of our lives, for help in some of our everyday work. We shouldn’t go too much as to letting technology control our lives. There is a certain limit before it starts to become a tool of destriuction.

Why Dentists Need A Website

With the number of people who are taking advantage of internet technology, it is not surprising that a lot of businesses use it as a marketing device. With the emergence of websites like eBay and Amazon, people have been accustomed to shopping online. They can buy through the internet and they can pay the bills through it as well. Dentists need a website because they are capable of “selling” themselves, their products, and their services. In this way, a lot of internet users may be encouraged to buy a dentist’s dental services. As popular as the internet is, a huge number of individuals are using the internet to help themselves with the large range of services that the internet can offer. Because of this, a dental website can cater to a lot of people and can be reached by a larger group of individuals, instead of something like the yellow pages or mail ads, either of which can be more expensive than building a website.
Another advantage of having a website is the fact that a lot of people are preoccupied with speed. They want devices and gadgets that can help them do things faster. So, through the internet, they would want to do things to decrease the time they usually spend in doing these usual chores. By means of the dentist’s website, the dentist can settle appointments, transactions, and meetings with his clients.
Popularity is also a big factor when the consumer is choosing a product or service to purchase. So a website can be a great tool to use when building the image and reputation of a dentist. The dentist can include comments and acclaims from contemporaries to impress future and potential customers.
Through the dentist’s website, he can provide a map and directions for going to the clinic. He can also provide basic information about himself like educational attainment, achievements done, and work history. By providing these, the customers can have a glimpse of the dentist without meeting him. This can also be used to the dentist’s advantage and build a good image of himself. Other than building a good reputation, he also needs to establish his credibility. This will help when encouraging a potential client into buying his services.
Another good strategy into creating a website is to show the dentist’s products and services that he can offer. He can also use the website to give information on his current clients on how to contact him.
The website of the dentist should be customer-friendly. It should be easy to navigate, and attractive. It will also be helpful if it has interesting content to entice the clients and customers. It would be a good idea if the articles are sharing information on dental hygiene. As a dentist, educating clients on dental practices and habits is one of the things he should be keen on doing.
It would also be a huge plus if the dentist makes an online video advertisement marketing his website and dental services. With the emergence of online video viewing and its increasing popularity, the online video would reach a wide range of people and increase traffic in the dentist’s website.

Why dentists need to have a website in today’s networked economy?

Nowadays dentistry is being considered essential for overall health. Dental surgery is one of the common treatments offered to majority of patients. Most people start researching about the disease and surgical procedure long before they ever meet a doctor. Their favorite tool of research is internet. A well managed website works even more than a full time employee showing all the services that a dentist is offering. Most internet users are well educated and belong to affluent society. They prefer a convenient and easy way of finding the services and to fix an appointment directly from their computer screens.

Benefits of having a website

· Being Searchable by Thousands of Potential Patients

A dental practice website is a dynamic tool for attracting the pool of patients. In current era of network economy, many people use internet search to find doctor. A website provides the information to the patients about availability of dentists in the clinic as well as the services provided. In addition, an online booking system offers the convenience of booking an appointment right from the computer screen at the same time they visit the website.

· Decreasing the Costs of Delivering Information to the Patients

Dentists can save a lot of time of their staff members answering the same questions again and again over phone calls by just putting basic information about their services on the web site. All the updates can also be easily posted on the site, saving money and also freeing up time for the staff members.

· Building a Relationship to the Patient even before meeting

A webpage telling about your dental practice is a wonderful tool that helps make new patients feel closer to you and encourages the patients to get to know more about you. Small section on information about common dental diseases and surgical procedures and a F.A.Q section answering common questions on various dental matters will help potential patient develop a confidence and trust.

· Creating a more professional appearance

First impression is the last impression! A website may be the first interaction between a dentist and the potential patient. By conveying correct information in an impressive manner may ensure that the patient will get back to the doctors soon. Thus, a well-maintained website can be used as an active tool for marketing and promoting the services offered by the dentists.

Why doctors and dentists need to have a website in today’s networked economy?

In today’s era of networked economy doctors also need to have a website as an assisting tool for their medical practice. A website is needed for doctors for many reasons. The most important reason is that the doctor and the services provided by them are searchable by the patient and the caregivers. In addition to attracting more patients, it also allows doctors to educate the patients and increasing the work flow.

Health information on Internet and patient education

In recent times, health consciousness among people has increased and internet has played an important role in creating awareness about health and diseases. Everybody is looking for reliable health information and internet search has become one of the important sources of information. The patients, their family members and care givers also wish their doctor to have a website. Detailed information about the condition and available treatment options are helpful in educating patient. The FAQ section of the website can provide answers to routine questions. Well informed patient improves patient-doctor relationship.

A medical practice website is an important tool for attracting the pool of patients. Many people use internet search to find doctor. A website will provide the information to the patients including availability of doctors in the clinic, areas of specialization and list of services provided. In addition, the cutting edge technology of current time provides patient and doctors with a system for booking the appointment online. Online booking system allows the patients to book an appointment while they visit the website.

In addition to providing information and patient education tool, a website may also be an efficient office management tool.

· Providing information about different support organization

· Providing link to insurance providers

· Gather feedback

· Improve patient care

· Location map with direction

Googles Apps for Docs

For many applications, physicians use cutting technology every day: diffusion-weighted MRI studies, helical spiral CT scans, angioplasty with stent deployment, and even robotic surgery. Doctors and dentists clearly use and stay abreast of technology as part of a successful practice, so why is it so difficult to bring the business of medical and dental practice into the internet age? It seems almost incomprehensible that a medical professional can bring to bear some of the most amazing medical technologies ever created, yet keep a paper schedule and lacks a professional website.

Many doctors and dentists feel that they must keep up with medical technology to properly serve their patients, but do not place nearly the same emphasis on keeping informed and current with software that would keep a professional practice running as smoothly as possible. Given the time pressures that most medical professionals face, running the business of a medical practice is considered supplementary to the practice of medicine, when, in reality, it is all part of the same process. Sadly, most physicians and dentists do not learn about how to manage a practice until they find themselves hanging a plank for the first time.

One resource that is virtually untapped but that can provide immediate and substantial benefits to a professional practice are Google Apps. Google Apps are business applications that can be customized to suit any business, including health care practice management. Gmail, Google Calendar, Team site creation and video sharing are just some of the features available to streamline a medical practice. The same applications that are employed by millions of users every day have been tailored to specific business needs, including professional practice. Want to keep track of all of your appointments? Use Google Calendar. Want patients to be able to personally block off an appropriate time to schedule a patient visit? Use a form of Google Calendar that has been adapted to provide secure access to your patient schedule this eliminating the need for a medical receptionist.

Some doctors are a bit more savvy when it comes to business management software than others. Some have software that they like and programs that they do not enjoy using. Google Apps is built in modules—if a dentist is pleased with his appointment scheduler but would like different software to handle document editing and personnel scheduling, Google Apps can be customized to fit within that existing framework. These applications communicate with most other software platforms. This modular format also keeps costs down by allowing the professional to choose which programs work best for a given practice.

Another benefit of Google Apps is that physicians and dentists are already familiar with the format because of their use of Gmail and similar Google services. Thus when Google Apps are employed for practice management, the browser interface is intuitive. In other words there is not a huge learning curve required in order to use the applications. Even if doctors have not used similar Google applications in the past, the Google family of applications and software are incredibly easy to use.

Getting started with Google Apps is easy. All that is required is a brief review of the services offered, choosing which applications will most likely benefit your practice, and setting up certain parameters within your web domain. A link to an informational video is included below. If you would like the system set up for your practice, there are a number of companies that specialize in web development and Google Apps services.

Why every doctor should have a professional web presence in today’s networked economy

Did you know that over 80 percent of people that access the internet have looked for medical information online? This study, administered by the Pew Charitable Trusts, shows that consumers are not only using the web for purchases and leisure activities, but information presented online also shapes their views and decisions on healthcare. Those who do not have a web presence, even physicians and dentists, are going unnoticed and overlooked.

Is it unprofessional?

Many doctors worry that by advertising online that they are somehow violating traditions of medicine and dentistry. They feel that if their picture is on a website that they are cheapening the reputation of professionals as a whole. While it may put a sour taste in the mouths of doctors who hear laser eye surgeons advertising discounts on the radio or see a cosmetic surgeon’s flashy reality television show, having a tasteful, professional website is actually a respectable form of advertisement. When done properly, it is no more distasteful than a listing in a telephone book or appearing in a facebook for health care providers covered by a particular insurance. In fact, having a web presence is becoming an essential part of the health care practice. The more immediate worry than ‘will a website seem unprofessional?” should be “If I do not have a professional website, will anyone take my practice seriously?” Most of your prospective patients will look for information about you online. If you do not have a significant and favorable web presence, most people are apt to choose a provider that does.

A professional website must be professional

While the fear that a website is unbecoming of a doctor or dentist may be unfounded, a very reasonable worry is that your website may appear unprofessional. Your professional website is your virtual face and reputation. It is the first thing that many patients will come to learn about you and judgments will be made about you based on your website. Have you ever visited a website that was very professional looking, easy to use, and highly informative? What did you think about the company or website owner? Have you ever visited a website that was clunky, covered with garish fonts and illustrations, and had limited functionality? What did you think about that website owner?

You spent years training to be a doctor or dentist, you did not spend years training to be a web developer or designer (though some do both, I suppose). Unless you are very skilled at website creation and have the time to devote to it, you should outsource the job to someone that knows how to do it right. This service does not need to be expensive to be of high quality, but the quality, as with many things in life, improves as the fees increase. Ask to see examples of web designers past work, ask for references, and find someone that has experience in professional website design. The web features that go into a home page for an auction house or a beer distributer are not likely the same elements that will be incorporated in your site.

What should I include on a professional website?

A basic professional website is one of the easiest websites to create. It should provide anyone that visits it with information necessary to make an appointment to see you. The professional website should also have all of the information that a patient would need in order to decide if you should be their doctor. List your training, your certifications and licenses, list the services that you offer and highlight any practice specializations. You can provide directions to your office(s) or link to Google Maps, Mapquest or Yahoo Maps with your address provided. As always, this should be done tastefully.

Websites for health care providers should have crisp lines, modest colors, and limited links. If illustrations and photographs are to be used (and they should), they should all be professional looking. Search for other physicians and dentists that you respect—how are their websites constructed? There are plenty of websites providing dubious medical information. Your website could be a repository of useful information and links to reputable medical websites.

How will patients find my website?

This is the key question. When a person types Chicago orthodontist into Google, how do you make sure that you appear among the search results (and hopefully near the top)? This is not easily answered because there are various strategies for achieving this goal. Some are straightforward; simply provide enough relevant content on your site that the various search engine bots realize that Chicago orthodontist should point to you. Others require a bit more work. If you are looking to expand your practice, there are companies that help you improve your search page rankings. However, if you are simply looking to have a web presence in which patients can learn about you when they “google” your name, search engine optimization need not be a primary concern.

Advanced content and functionality

Depending on your comfort with technology, you may want to include some more advanced features on your site. For example, some practices have moved to an electronic medical record (you know it’s coming) and online scheduling. There are services that streamline all of these features into a single secure program. Here is an example of how it works:

A 40 year old woman wants to see a primary care physician near her because she has just entered the workforce and now has health insurance after a hiatus. She comes across your website, determines you are near her and that she is pleased with your credentials (and web presence). Your website has a secure page into which she can place her medical information, including her insurance information. Your program verifies that you take her insurance, so she proceeds to the secure scheduling page. On this page she searches for the next “initial visit” spot on your schedule and is instantly placed in that time slot. The computer automatically calls her to confirm her appointment immediately and on the day before her visit. When you see her at the appointed time, her medical information is already in the computer in the proper location and you are able to do a focused history and full physical exam because of the time that was saved initially.

For medical and dental professionals, having the right web presence is not something that they can afford to live without. Moreover, establishing a professional web presence is easier and more affordable than you might think.
